The 2014 Chevrolet Spark EV will be releasing in California and Oregon as Chevrolet has decided. In only these two states, the Chevrolet will only sell in these states with no further announcements. The reason behind this isn’t difficult to fathom either. There are limited electric sparks in the inventory. If the Spark EV is a runaway success, then sales will expand.

Fast facts about Chevrolet Spark EV

  • The electrical engine will produce 140 horse power and about 400 lb-ft of torque.
  • On a full singular charge, the range is about 82 miles.
  • The Chevrolet Spark EV has been rated 119 MPG.
  • The price of Spark EV is to be 27500 dollars.

Chevrolet is critically designing its cars and this year at least thirteen new Chevrolets will surface in the car market. It’s a bit surprising to know that Sonic, Spark and Cruze diesel have a worldwide architecture. Chevrolet has been selling majority of its vehicles outside of USA while General Motors sells its cars Chevy’s mostly outside USA.

Chevrolet has been focusing on smaller car market these days. Chevrolet is now second on cars sold to people under 25 age bracket. The Chevrolet Spark EV is for a couple, it’s not a youth car by any means.

The stage 3 chargers aren’t available till 2013. They cost another 800 dollars. The 2014 Chevrolet Spark EV will come with a 100,000 mile warranty as with all the cars.

Engine inside: Spark EV

The electric motor is excellent performs magnificently. It can develop 140 horse power and 400 lb-ft of torque. It packs some silent sucker punch inside. Most electric car drivers agree that torque drops quickly in all electric cars while making 400 lb-ft of torque at zero rpm.

That isn’t the case with Chevrolet Spark EV. The engine keeps its very own torque.

It has more torque than the famous Ford Mustang GT. It has excellent management and gearing system. The electric vehicles don’t use gearboxes at all like any gas powered car. They employ single gear for transmitting power to front wheels. Just think of as being driving in a car at 6th gear all the time.

Interior inside: Spacious and well maintained

The exterior of the Spark EV looks same as any Spark apart from front grille which is closed up. There have been aerodynamic tweaks made in the exterior. Many are unnoticeable for the eye. That was the aim of Chevrolet, to make an electric car which looks same as a regular car. No passenger space and cargo space should be compromised and the dimensions of the car to be remain same as they were.

The overall result has been mixed. The cargo capacity has decreased a bit but the legroom is same. The rest of the car is same as any Chevrolet Spark. There are some EV buttons. The Chevrolet Spark had a motorcycle style which has been replaced by that of Chevrolet Volt. The car can also calculate the maximum and minimum driving range itself.

The Chevrolet Spark is available in 1LT and 2LT models. The upgrades are in cloth seats which have converted to leatherette. The steering is covered up in leather too. The MyLink infotainment system is present in the Chevrolet system and shows all the charging stations in the BringGo navigation application.  The interior is made of hard plastic and driving for some people is greatly difficult.

Battery revisited: Chevrolet Spark EV

But there’s room for four and space for seating is ample. The Spark EV exists only because of Chevrolet Volt. The charging is similar to Chevrolet Volt too. The battery system has been hacked from Chevrolet Volt.  The Chevrolet Volt has 21 kilowatt hours lithium ion battery of 36 cells. Batteries are present in the cargo floor and back seats. The weight distribution is balanced by 50/50 ratio. It takes 17 hours for a Chevrolet Spark EV for a full charge from a household puling socket. It takes 7 hours from a 240 V charger. With stage 3 charger, 80 percent battery is full in 20 minutes.
