Let’s go back in 1954 when Mercedes-Benz reveals the first flagship sedan generation model, dubbed the Ponton. The name S-Class was first used in 1972 when the W116 was introduced on the market. In case you didn’t know S-Class is a German abbreviation of  “Sonderklasse”, a word that means “Special Class”.

A couple of months ago, the German manufacturer has unveiled a new generation of the S-Class (W222) at the Airbus A380 delivery center in Hamburg.

The new generation of the 2014 S-Class is a state of art which has an evolutionary design and who uses newly developed technologies. When the new S-Class model was developed, the German engineers had in their minds three priorities: “Intelligent Drive”, “Efficient Technology” and “Essence of Luxury”.

“Rather than being about safety or aesthetics, power or efficiency, comfort or dynamism, our aspirations were ‘the best or nothing’ in every respect. No other car stands for the Mercedes-Benz brand promise more than the S-Class, said Dr. Dieter Zetsche, CEO of Mercedes-Benz.

The new S-Class generation has a revolutionary design and its sleek styling offers a drag coefficient of 0.24, a very good figure for a model of its size.

But we forgot to say the new 2014 S-Class dimensions. The German model is now measuring 5.116 millimeters long, 1.899 millimeters wide and 1.483 mm tall with a wheelbase of 3.035 mm. For those who want more room, Mercedes-Benz will soon launch a long-wheel base with 5.246 mm long and a wheelbase that measures 3.165 mm.

The design

The 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class will come with a lot of LEDs. Actually, all the lights are developed on LEDs and this is the first ever car in the world without a single light bulb.

Inside the cabin, the customers will have a really, really big surprise. Every where they will look will be only high quality materials with premium accents and accessories. The customers will enjoy with luxurious wood trim, metallic switchgear and stitched leather accents.

A very special feature is the analogue clock. It is a “gadget” that can’t be removed from such a luxurious and special car. The will also be a touch sensitive phone keypad, and two high-resolution 12.3 inch displays. One will be used for the instrument cluster and the other will work as an infotainment platform.

Now let’s say something about the sound. If you will chose an entry-level version you will get 10 speakers, which is a big thing, but if you love listening to music in your car you better pick the Burmester Surround Sound system or the Burmester High-End 3D-Surround Sound system.

If you have trouble with your lungs, Mercedes-Benz has the solution. He will offer to you the Air Balance package. It can filter and ionize the air and if you do want it can dispense a discreet and mild perfume into the cabin.

For those of you who don’t like the cold, Mercedes-Benz has the solution. It can offer to you the Warmth Comfort package. It comes with heated steering wheel, heated armrests and with improved seat heaters.

But when you buy a 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class either you’ll drive it like a business man or you will hire a driver. In you are the second type then the rear passenger option will come in your attention. For the rear passenger, the 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class can be offered with First Class Rear Seat package. If you have back issues you should know that the new 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class can be equipped with the Energizing seats. They have six different massage functions and it uses 14 air cushions.

But let’s have some words about the suspensions. Did you know that the 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class is the first car in the world who can detect bumps on the road ahead. In case you didn’t we will tell you how. It uses the Road Surface Scan system that uses a camera to watch the road and detect the irregularities. If it detects some bumps, it automatically sends a signal to the Magic Body Control Suspensions who will immediately react and prepare to deal with the situation.

Of course, this feature will be installed only if you pay some extra money, but the entry level 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class also comes with a tweaked Airmatic suspension and adaptive damping system.

Under the hood, the new 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class will be offered in four different versions.

The first one is the entry-level S350 BlueTec. It has a V6 diesel with 3.0 liter displacement that can develop 258 horsepower and 620 Nm peek of torque. It these configuration, the German model can sprint from stand still to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds, while the top speed was clocked at 250 km/h.

The second option will be the S500. It will come with a 4.7 liter V8 petrol unit with 455 horsepower and 700 Nm peek of torque. The acceleration from not to 100 km/h is done in 4.8 seconds.

The third option will be an eco version. It is called S300 BlueTec Hybrid and has a 2.1 liter petrol engine that can offer 2014 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque.

The last, but not the least will be the S400 Hybrid. It comes with a 3.5 liter V6 unit which can offer 306 HP and 370 Nm. In these conditions, the 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds.
