The 2014 Volkswagen Golf R has been officially unveiled before the public debut scheduled for this fall at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. You don’t have to wonder why we pick that article title because we’ll explain very fast.

In the first six months of the year, Volkswagen has unveiled the brand new Golf GTI, Golf GTD, Golf Estate and Golf TDI BlueMotion. Four different versions for a big market success.

Now let’s talk about the brand new 2014 Volkswagen Golf R. It comes with a new design and a special engine. According to Volkswagen, the new range-topping model can offer 300 horsepower from a 2.0 liter turbo engine with foul cylinder. It is 30 HP stronger and 18 per cent more fuel efficient than the previous model. The power is put to the ground via an all wheel drive system: the latest version of the 4MOTION system with Haldex coupling.

For o more dynamic and sporty handling the new 2014 Volkswagen Golf R has a body height lowered by 20 millimeters and an ESC Sport which can be fully deactivated for a more thrilled sensation on the race track.

Equipped with a manual gear box the new 2014 Volkswagen Golf R can sprint from stand still to 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds, 0.6 seconds faster than its predecessor. With a DSG transmission, the German sports car can go from not to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds. According to the German car maker, the top speed was electronically limited to 250 km/h.

As we told you before, the new Golf R is more fuel efficient than the previous generation. The fuel consumption was reduced from 8.5 liters to 100 kilometers to 7.1 liters per 100 kilometers. The CO2 emissions were also improved from 199 to 165 grams per kilometer.

These new figures were achieved by introducing a Start-Stop system with battery regeneration that work together for a fuel consumption of 6.9 liters per 100 kilometers when equipped with the six speed DSG gear box.

Now let’s talk a little about the design and the interior features. On the outside, the new 2014 Volkswagen Golf R can be offered in eight different colors: Pure White”, “Tornado Red”, “Night Blue”, “Limestone Grey Metallic”, “Reflex Silver Metallic”, “Deep Black Pearl Effect”,”Oryx White” and the newly created “Lapis Blue Metallic” (seen on the pictures).

The German car maker has developed a lot of exterior accessories. The body kit package includes new bumpers, redesigned side sills, a special rear diffuser, chrome dual tailpipes, bi-xenon headlight and 18 inch alloy wheels in standard.

The new 2013 Volkswagen Golf R can be distinguished form the front new aggressive bumper with larger air inlets and modified radiator grille. The LED DRL’s come with a special “U” design. In the back of the car we also see some smoked LED taillights and an “R” logo on the boot lid.

Inside the cabin, the new Golf R comes with sports seats covered in a combination of cloth and Alcantara leather. According to the German car maker the decorative inlays of the dash board and door trim panels comes with a “Carbon Touch” design. The pedals and the foot rest comes now in stainless steel while the “R” logo was tailored everywhere.

For the gadget-lovers the new 2014 Volkswagen Golf R features a redesigned radio and navy systems. They got touch screen in standard and can be offered in three display size: 5 inches, 5.8 inches and 8 inches.

More than that, Volkswagen is coming with proximity sensors (5.8 inches or above displays) which switches to input mode when the driver or any passenger moves a finger near the touch screen display.

And now let’s go back to the technical data developed by the new 2014 Volkswagen Golf R. As we told you before, the German sports car will come with 300 HP under the bonnet and with 380 Nm peek of torque. This amount of power was generated by modifying the exhaust valves, valve seats and springs, pistons, high-pressure injection vales and turbocharger.

Thanks to the fifth generation of Haldex coupling the car can eliminated nearly all traction losses. When the car has a relatively low load the system sends the power to the front axle and the rear axle is decoupled. But don’t be afraid because the rear axle can be engaged in fractions of a second whenever is necessary.

At the beginning of the article we told you that the new Golf R can offer new feelings on the race track. This milestone was achieved thanks to the new XDS+ and ESC Sport systems. The last one can be fully deceived by pressing the button longer than three seconds.

Because we are talking about a sport car, the ride comfort will suffer a little bit. The suspensions were perfected compared to the oldest model and comes with three different stages: direct, neutral and stable handling.

The new 2014 Volkswagen Golf R will feature a Driving Profile Selector. It has four stages of driving programmes: “Eco”, “Normal” “Individual” and “Race”. In combination with Dynamic Chassis Control (can be fitted optionally) the car comes with a “Comfort” mode.

For a better track feeling, the new Golf R was fitted with better brakes. It uses a 17 inch system with ventilated discs and brake calipers. The front brake pistons have a 60 mm diameter while the rear one has 42 mm.

The new 2014 Volkswagen Golf R will be built in two and four doors versions and the sale are scheduled to start in Germany in the fourth quarter of this year. The price tag for the entry-level version will be of 38.325 Euros.
