BMW i8 has been officially unveiled in Frankfurt. The second product of the “i”sub-brand is plug-in hybrid sports coupe that will break the heart of all petrolheads.

The new BMW i8 comes with 1.490 kilograms and has a 2+2 seats configuration. Its cabin was made from carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) and it has borrowed a lot of elements seen on the concept.

The new 2013 BMW i8 is coming with a plug-in hybrid power train. It is made from a 1.5 liter 3 cylinder petrol Twin Power Turbo engine and an electric unit. According to the German manufacturer, the internal combustion engine is offering 231 horsepower and 320 Nm peek of torque. The electric engine comes with 131 horsepower that are sent to the front wheels via a two stage automatic transmission.

The electric unit is kept alive by a 5 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The final output is clocked at 362 horsepower and 570 Nm peek of torque. In these conditions, the 2013 BMW i8 will be able to sprint from stand still to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds. According to BMW, the car will have a fuel consumption of 2.5 liters per 100 kilometers. If you love the planet you can use the German car in electric mode. The BMW 98 can run in this mode for 35 kilometers at speeds of 120 km/h.

If you want to drive a more special version you can chose the lightweight carbon wheels. BMW is also offering a rear view camera, high beam assistant, Surround View, Head-Up Display and Collision Warning with pedestrian recognition.
