2013 Cadillac Elmiraj Concept – a new vision for luxury
The 2013 Cadillac Elmiraj Concept has been officially unveiled. It represents a grand coupe that shows us the pure enjoyment of driving and exploring new dimensions for the American brand. According to the officials, the new Elmiraj Concept showcases a new vision for luxury driving and the top of the brand’s expanding range.
“Cadillac is fueled by the creativity of our designers, led by Ed Welburn. Elmiraj provides a look inside the Cadillac Studio on how we envision performance and luxury for the next generation of luxury drivers”, said Bob Ferguson, senior vice president, Global Cadillac.
The brand new US concept was inspired by the 1967 Eldorado modeland from the special Ciel Concept and was developed to give birth to a new competitor for the Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
“We were influenced in particular by the 1967 Eldorado, both its actual design and the fact that in its time that car was a very stark contrast and a new direction. More recent design like the CTS-V Coupe and the ELR are provocative. Both of these cars were major statements of performance and luxury and drove Cadillac forward into new territory”, said Clay Dean, the advanced design director.
The 2013 Cadillac Elmiraj Concept offers room for four passengers and have a length of 5.207 millimeters, a width of 1.930 millimeters and a height of 1.397 millimeters.
Under the hood, the new Elmiraj Concept comes with a 4.5 liter twin turbo V8 engine capable of delivering 500 horsepower and 678 Nm peek of torque. The engine represents the muse for the new Cadillac Twin Turbo V6 mounted in the upcoming 2014 Cadillac CTS V Sport Edition.
“Elmiraj advances Cadillac’s provocative modern design and performance, contrasted with bespoke craftsmanship and luxury. It explores performance driving, as well as how we’re approaching elevating the Cadillac range and new dimensions of Art & Science philosophy”, said Mark Adams, Cadillac design director.
The 2013 Cadillac Elmiraj Concept features a unique exterior design. It represents the next step of the Art & Science philosophy used by Cadillac to draw their models. It also represents a teaser for the upcoming Cadillac production models.
“This concept is the second chapter, following the Ciel Concept, of our exploration of the personas of true luxury. This project originated around the simple persona of “the drive,” or the visceral experience of driving a great luxury coupe. It’s an expression of the confidence and poise you feel driving a high-performance car, which we feel is an essential element of top-level luxury”, said Clay Dean.
The front end of the 2013 Cadillac Elmiraj Concept is dominated by a big and massive grille that continues to the rear side with a ventilated hood. In case you didn’t know, the two air vents on the hood are used to cool the twin turbo engine. On the outside we also see a 22 inch aluminum wheels that are backed by ceramic brakes with Cadillac monoblock calipers.
Luxury and elegance are the two best words to describe the new interior of the Elmiraj Concept. According to Cadillac, the interior was specially designed to offer generous space with driver focused performance elements. The upper section of the instrument panel is made from a single piece that extends across the full width of the car to offer new sensations.
“A concept provides not only an opportunity to explore new design ideas, but to pursue new techniques for elegant craftsmanship and materials,” said Gael Buzyn, lead interior designer.
As we say earlier, the Cadillac Elmiraj Concept comes with a futuristic cabin that was equipped with high performance seats, camel leather upholstery and Brazilian Rosewood trim. As for the infotainment system you should know that the 2013 Cadillac Elmiraj Concept comes with a 10 inch touch screen display that can retract.
There is also a new futuristic instrument cluster with a transparent tachometer and speedometer positioned on the top of a display that offers the driver a lot of vehicle information. Because we are talking about a limousine the back seats are very important and Cadillac comes with a special valet system that slides the front seat 10 inches forward and the rear ones by 4 inches forward to meet the passenger. After the person is seated, the seats slides back into the normal position.
“Elmiraj is about poise and proportion. We wanted a mature statement for Cadillac, where simplicity and subtle adornments create a purposeful presence”, said Niki Smart, lead exterior designer.
The new 2013 Cadillac Elmiraj Concept was developed by the General Motors advance design studio in North Hollywood, California, under the direct observation and direction of Frank Saucedo who led the development of the prototype interior and exterior.
